The planking craze has now infected Apple stores, as pictures on a new blog show Apple employees lying facedown on various company products and surfaces.
A new blog on the popular Web site Tumblr was created several days ago showing photos of Apple store employees laying on top of the “Genius Bar”, and balancing on iMacs, with the most impressive feat showing a man laying atop a single boxed Macbook Pro. Apple employees have blurred or hidden their faces making them nearly impossible to identify.
The blog’s header shows a picture of Apple’s famous bitten-apple logo with a man balancing above the stem. Below it reads a tag-line of “The funnest sport ever. Now a blog. This changes everything. Again.”
Planking, for those not in the know, is a bizarre trend in which people take photos of themselves in precarious locations laying face-down with their arms at their sides. The plankers upload their photos to dedicated Facebook planking pages for the world to see.
The fad made headlines earlier this month when an Australian man fell from an apartment building while taking part in the trend. Acton Beale, 20, fell seven stories from a balcony while balancing his body on a guard rail waiting for his friend to snap a photo of him.
The death garnered the attention of Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who said, “There’s a difference between a harmless bit of fun done where that’s really safe and taking a risk with your life.”
The official planking fanpage on Facebook has over 116,000 followers, while the Australian-specific page has over 55,000.
